Winchester Launches Verrus Service at City Centre Car Parks

Winchester City Council is the latest local authority to adopt the Verrus mobile phone payment service at six of its central pay and display car parks.

Launched at the beginning of April, early indications show that the service is proving very popular with local motorists especially at Tower St multi storey car park which has recently reverted to pay and display from pay on foot.

"We continually search for new and innovative ways to enhance the level of service we can offer to customers. The Verrus system gives them an additional option to make payment and save the inconvenience of having to carry large amounts of change. It also gives the customer the option of extending their parking period to take up the opportunity to go for that last minute coffee or visit one of our tourist attractions and reduce the possibility of being issued with a penalty charge notice". said Richard Hein, Parking & Concessionary Travel Manager for Winchester.

Verrus now has some 400,000 users on their database and will process around 5.5 million transactions during 2008. Users already registered in nearby Salisbury will be able to use the Winchester service without re-registering.
