Verrus' Park & Pay by Phone Service Rolled Out at First Capital Connect Car Parks

Following a successful trial at St Neots and Harpenden of Verrus' mobile phone payment service, rail operator, First Capital Connect (FCC) together with parking partner NCP, is rolling out the Verrus phone payment service at all of its 40 station car parks from May 1st 2008.

Karen Boswell, Customer Services Director said: "Many of us have been in the position when you are frantically searching for the right change at a parking ticket machine – and you can see your train approaching. Park & Pay means you can board that train and then pay from your mobile phone. It is just one of the flexible payment methods we have put in place to make it easier for our customers when using our stations and car parks."

The Verrus service allows FCC's rail customers to pay for up to 31 days of parking by simply calling or sending a text message from their mobile phone within 30 minutes of parking their vehicle.

Promotional leaflets and posters setting out all the options for payment for car parking are being distributed and displayed at all stations where the new payment option is available.

Mobile phone payment is just one payment option that is available to FCC customers who now have a range of payment methods for car parks to choose from. These include paying by cash, credit card, scratchcards or online for season ticket purchases.

First Capital Connect has invested in improving its car parks in the first two years of the franchise. Already 26 Car Parks have been accredited with the Park Mark Award which recognises best practice in improving security at car parks. This includes the provision of CCTV, improved lighting and other security measures.

Verrus celebrated its one millionth UK transaction last October which occurred at Harpenden Station. First Capital Connect customer Julian Mountain was the lucky one millionth user of the service and claimed a bottle of champagne.

Speaking at the presentation Julian said: "I think it is a marvellous service as it is so convenient. It means I don't have to think in advance about change for the car park and it just makes the daily commute that little bit less stressful."

Verrus has since celebrated its two millionth transaction and is on course to celebrate its three millionth in the near future.
